Rebecca Daugherty has painted for over twenty years, and has painted full-time since 2003, when she and her husband opened Isalos Fine Art in downtown Stonington, Maine.
Often working from a close perspective, Daugherty hones-in on details to find recurring natural forms and unexpected compositions. She carries this approach to her broader views and work from the landscape, usually working in a series of images exploring particular themes.
While living on the Greek island of Patmos, Daugherty began her close-up studies of fishing boats, often focusing on the waterline and reflection, creating tension with the arrangement of lines holding the boat to shore. She later settled in Stonington to paint from the boats in its large, active fishing fleet, which she rows to in her home-built dinghy.
She studied painting at Goddard College and printmaking at the University of Iowa. Her work has been exhibited and sold since 1988, currently through Isalos Fine Art in Stonington, Maine and the Camden Falls Gallery in Camden, Maine.
